Clara Song is a data scientist turned cosmetic formulator. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Technology at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), where her research covered healthcare big data, wearable and cloud-based health monitoring, emotion-aware computing and the Internet of Things, and she then held a postdoctoral fellowship in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia.
She now designs and manufactures skincare for sensitive and complicated skin in her own FDA-registered facility in South Surrey, BC, teaches skin science and formulation to working estheticians through Complete Elixir Academy, and edits the Complicated Skin Journal, a library of more than 250 evidence-based articles. She also holds a Medical Aesthetician Diploma.

From data to skin
Health-data research taught Clara to look for the pattern behind a signal and to separate what a study measured from what a headline claims. She brings the same habits to complicated skin: every Skin Journal article keeps ingredient evidence, formulation rationale, finished-product evidence and professional observation apart.
Her doctorate is not a medical degree, and she does not diagnose. An earlier academic page at the University of British Columbia is no longer updated; this page replaces it.
