Lecture 3 · What Is Done: Dermatology Treatment and the Role of the Treatment Room
Treating rosacea is the work of medical professionals. That does not mean you can afford not to know about it. You need to know what treatment a client is receiving so that your care does not clash with it.
This session gives an overview of topical and oral treatments and procedures, and covers the barrier side of the loop where the treatment room can intervene.
Who this session is for
Skin therapists, estheticians and aesthetic practitioners who see clients with reactive or problem skin. The course is educational: diagnosis and treatment belong to medical professionals, and each session ends with the signs that call for a referral.
What you will be able to do
- Read the clinic's treatment map: which tools target redness, papules and pustules, and visible vessels
- Explain why even well-supported medicines take 8 to 12 weeks to judge, and why they do not clear everyone
- Describe the treatment room's role alongside medical care, without competing with it
- Name the steps and ingredients that are contraindicated, and why
- Support clients who are having laser or IPL, and know when to refer
The treatment room's best-supported role is not to replace medicine but to help clients tolerate it.
